Storytelling

Storytelling is an art form. The ability to convey a series of events in a coherent manner so that the receiver derives some sort of meaning from it.

Now, in traditional terms, stories have been used in oral or verbal formats to propagate an idea or a belief. Stories told to children have a ‘moral’ so as to give a framework or a guideline on how to deal with various circumstances.

In contemporary context, storytelling also permeates on how you communicate to others.

For example, your LinkedIn profile is a story. It is not merely a list of facts about you, but also a story of how you’ve navigated your professional life, what are your career goals and how skilled you are to achieve them.

There are various resources that can teach you on how to be a better storyteller.

The point of this brief article is to make you aware that everything that is communicated is a story.

A brand’s origin has a story which tells you what it aims to constantly achieve, a country has a story, your LinkedIn profile or your resume has a story to tell, the way you have arranged your food to click a picture for your Instagram account tells a story.

So start thinking about every piece of communication in those terms, what do you want to convey, what are the phrases that will convey the same effectively, what metaphors will work with your target audience.

This change in thinking will align every action of yours towards a more effective communication.
