Crack a joke, please !

Recently someone asked me to crack a joke for them.

I do not consider myself as a funny person. I am sarcastic though.

I feel that many people make small talk which is full of usual and predictable stuff and they do it just because it is the norm to do so. While doing this , both people in the conversation discuss something both know and it leads to redundancy.
But we do it because small talk is essential. It helps ease off the normal tension when two people meet. It makes everyone comfortable.

After a point of time , the small talk seems too boring and I realised that a little sarcasm won’t hurt anyone. I was sure to stay in limits and not insult anyone.

Honing this habit of “trying to be different” and “witty” helped me to develop something called “interactional humour”. I can lighten up a conversation by using simple wordplay or making some exaggerated comic references pertaining to the context at hand.
People started mistaking me for a humourist.

In India , every thing falls under the same umbrella – slapstick jokes , poor jokes , stand-up , mimicry etc.
But there is a difference between ‘jester’ and a ‘funny’ person.
You don’t just go up to someone and ask them to tell you something funny.
I can’t always be funny.Sometimes I am deep in contemplation and facing inner turmoil.

But it’s okay.
At the end of the day , everyone is leading a troubled life and they need some comic relief.

So I memorise a joke or a funny story when someone asks me to “Crack a joke, please !”
